I tried to simplify some of the shapes and unify the composition a little better with this session. I'm getting close! Although I think I'll finish up this piece in one more session, I think I'll make 2 or 3 more paintings based on this piece as well. I also like how the piece can be separated into 3 or 4 images that retain a completed composition and feel.
As I painted this piece, I was thinking about one of the comments I often hear from plein air painters - how difficult it is to get all the greens the right color. My best advice: for a natural green - mix Cadmium Yellow (medium) and Black! They make the loveliest warm green color! As you go further back into the landscape of your painting, choose cooler colors for it to recede.
